Empowering Youth Through Soccer
Yusuf and Selman, rising juniors and promising soccer players at GTS, leveraged the school’s unique success coaching program to launch a free soccer camp for underprivileged children in Cambodia. This initiative exemplifies how GTS supports students’ academic and personal growth, enabling them to make a tangible difference in the world.
“We always wanted to help others, but we couldn’t have imagined teaching soccer and sharing our passion for the sport in a country 6,000 miles away from our home in Pennsylvania,” said Yusuf and Selman. Their success coach played a crucial role in turning this dream into reality, facilitating partnerships and providing the necessary support to launch the camp.
A Life-Changing Experience
In July 2014, Yusuf and Selman traveled to Cambodia, where they spent two weeks coaching elementary and middle school students. The camp was not only about soccer; it was an enriching cultural exchange. The students forged new friendships, learned about Cambodian history and culture, and explored the country with their local peers.
Sarun, a participant in the camp, shared, “It was an amazing experience to learn and play soccer with Yusuf and Selman. I will never forget this for the rest of my life.”
