Student Spotlight: Kolter LeRoy – Future Hockey Executive

Global Town School Senior | Student-Athlete | Future Hockey Executive

For Kolter LeRoy, hockey isn’t just a sport—it’s a way of life. From the time he could walk, he was on the ice, a natural fit for a child whose parents met while working for an NHL team. Over the years, Kolter worked tirelessly to sharpen his skills as a goalie, facing elite competition and striving to play at the highest levels.

But as his senior year approached, Kolter found himself in a unique situation. To play at the level he needed, he had to join a hockey team outside his school district, an opportunity that came with both excitement and challenges.

While his athletic career was advancing, his previous school could not provide the flexibility he needed to balance his academics and training schedule. That’s when he and his family found Global Town School.

A School That Puts Student-Athletes First

Before enrolling at Global Town School, Kolter attended a large traditional high school, where he was one of 400 students in his grade. While he maintained solid grades, he often felt overlooked—neither struggling enough to receive extra help nor excelling enough to stand out.

As his mother, Angie LeRoy, explains:

My son was, for lack of a better phrase, forgotten about. When you’re a ‘B-average’ student in a large school, you don’t get much attention—either positively or negatively. But that changed when he enrolled at Global Town School.

At Global Town School, Kolter found an entirely different experience. With personalized support, one-on-one guidance, and a curriculum that fit his needs, he was able to balance his rigorous athletic commitments while still excelling in school. The school’s staff worked closely with him to ensure he was meeting college requirements, preparing his applications, and even fine-tuning his college essay.

The attention he received at Global Town School is what set him apart and got him accepted into six universities! They helped him every step of the way—from selecting the right courses to navigating financial aid and preparing for college admissions. It was beyond any expectations we had for a school

Balancing Academics & Athletics

One of the biggest advantages Kolter found at Global Town School was the flexibility to train and compete at an elite level. Because he played for a team outside his district, he needed a school that would allow him to train, travel, and compete without falling behind academically. The customized learning schedule provided by Global Town School made this possible, allowing him to pursue his athletic and academic goals simultaneously.

Kolter’s college coursework in business also gave him a head start on his career aspirations. Inspired by his lifelong connection to hockey, he plans to earn a degree in business and pursue a career in hockey operations, with the ultimate goal of becoming a general manager for a professional hockey team.

Because of Global Town School, my son will be able to continue fulfilling his dreams—both in the classroom and on the ice. Without this program, I don’t know if these opportunities would have been possible at all.

A Future of Possibilities

Kolter’s journey is one of determination, resilience, and unwavering passion. Despite challenges, he never gave up on his goals. With Global Town School’s support, he not only thrived academically and athletically—he also discovered new opportunities to grow as a student and an athlete.

His hard work has paid off:
Accepted into all six universities he applied to
Currently competing in a state-ranked hockey program
Preparing for college with advanced business courses

As he looks toward the future, Kolter is excited to take the next step in his journey—one that will bring him closer to his dream of working in professional hockey. And when he reaches that goal, he already knows what will hang in his office:

“My first goalie stick and a stack of shutout pucks—reminders of the challenges I’ve faced and the perseverance that got me through them.”

Congratulations, Kolter! We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish.
